Lake Ontario Food Web To learn more about the life that exists in Lake Ontario, click on the image above of a fish that only eats when hand-fed. In fact, this fish has evolved to the point that it can choose between food that is safe to consume and food that is suspect. The USDA is conducting field trials to determine if restaurants should be required to use such species of fish to test the quality of each meal prepared before it is served to restaurant patrons. Preliminary results show a positive response from the fish as they continue to grow in size. One particular fish that officials simple refer to as "Spot" will be the featured guest in February on Oprah when it discusses the stresses of such an occupation. There are no plans to use these fish in Canada, other than on Spadina Ave. in Toronto.
